First and foremost, this is my personal experience and it may differ with other people’s. :))
STEM, as it implies, focuses mainly on science and mathematics. It may sound intimidating at first, but trust me, it’s a fun ride.
What made the STEM journey at SCC a lot of fun were the great teachers and awesome schoolmates.
During my 2 years as a STEM student, I experienced breakdowns and breakthroughs. I have tried going to school with only 3 hours of sleep, cried in front of my classmates due to stress and skipped meals just to comply requirements. But I also experienced breakthroughs, I was able to come out of my timid shell, compete in a Math contest and receive proficiency awards. The best part of it all was seeing my parents’ proud faces.
Among all the subjects in STEM, GenBio, GenChem and Calculus are the most challenging. You have to strive hard and study if you want to pass. And although Pre-Calculus may sound easier than Basic Calculus, trust me, it isn’t. But Basic Cal is also not basic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Pro tip: Watch educational YouTube videos and some tutorials on how to solve complex equations.
Research Papers and Capstone Projects proved how we could achieve something if we really put our mind to it and pushed ourselves to do the best we can. A paper that’s supposed to be done in a span of 1 semester is made within a week!
Another pro tip: DO NOT IMITATE ME, DO NOT BE A PROCRASTINATOR!
SCC did not only develop my talents in the Scientific field but also enhanced my other skills such as communicating and expressing myself properly. And also, I was able to delve in a little in arts.
For any of you aspiring young scientists and engineers, do not be afraid to take a leap of faith. Always be courageous!
